David Kordansky Gallery is pleased to announce its participation in Art Los Angeles Contemporary with a solo presentation by Ruby Neri.  The presentation will focus on small- and medium-scale ceramic figures made by the artist over the last six years.  Because she has continually returned to ceramics, even when she is making work in other mediums, these works offer an evolving snapshot of her practice as whole.  Neri's commitment to the human figure, intensely modeled forms, and bold use of color place her work in dialogue with a broad and idiosyncratic array of art historical lineages, including those, like the Bay Area Figurative Movement, which are specific to the west coast.  But the immediacy of their forms lends them an emotional charge that transcends reference, and that conjures a constantly shifting blend of humor, pathos, fragility, and fearlessness.

Ruby Neri is currently included in The Possible, Berkeley Art Museum & Pacific Film Archive and Caught Looking, Armory Center for the Arts, Pasadena.  Other recent exhibitions include Busted, High Line Commission, High Line Art, New York; Made in L.A. 2012, Hammer Museum, Los Angeles; and American Exuberance, Rubell Family Collection, Miami.
